The Big Snow In – Day 3

Day 3 of the “snow/ice-in” here in Georgia and well I think it’s safe to say that we are all officially “over it”.  The snow and ice are starting the melt, however the temperature is expected to dip below freezing tonight so there is no telling what we are going to get come Thursday AM.  I have my fingers crossed that there will be school and work  tomorrow. Did I really say that out loud?

So today….

This little one just couldn’t take it anymore and tried to escape.

4 out of the 5 of us did a little work (or at least gave the appearance that we were working). While…

One was in the other room watching TV and texting/playing games on his cell phone

At the end of the day we enjoyed some good old chicken and dumplings.

I found a really yummy recipe for chicken and dumplings over at The Pioneer Woman Cooks, you can check it out here.  I love Ree’s website and I would have to say that all the recipes I have tried have been great.  This is the second time I have made chicken and dumplings and this by far was the best. I followed another recipe the last time I made them and it was good but not as good as this one.

Hopefully this will be the last snow/ice-in day for us as we are all experiencing cabin fever.  Plus I am going to be as big as a house if I keep cooking like this (when you’ve been locked in the house for 3 days TV gets old, so the next thing you do is cook).

Praying for sunny skies and 60 degree weather tomorrow!

One Little Word 2011

In an earlier post, I mentioned that I was participating in Ali Edwards One Little Word class over at Big Picture Classes.  The word that kept coming to me throughout the month of December was STORY.

Before working with any word, it’s best to have a full understanding of what the word means.  Here is how Dictionary.com defines the word:

sto·ry

1 /ˈstɔri, ˈstoʊri/ [stawr-ee, stohr-ee]

noun, plural –ries, verb, –ried, –ry·ing.

–noun

1. a narrative, either true or fictitious, in prose or verse, designed to interest, amuse, or instruct the hearer or reader; tale.

2. a fictitious tale, shorter and less elaborate than a novel.

3. such narratives or tales as a branch of literature: song and story.

4. the plot or succession of incidents of a novel, poem, drama, etc.: The characterizations were good, but the story was weak.

5. a narration of an incident or a series of events or an example of these that is or may be narrated, as an anecdote, joke, etc.

6. a narration of the events in the life of a person or the existence of a thing, or such events as a subject for narration: the story of medicine; the story of his life.

7. a report or account of a matter; statement or allegation: The story goes that he rejected the offer.

Here are some of the ways the word Story spoke to me:

  • Learning lots of life lessons by listening to other people’s stories.
  • Writing my own STORY for 2011.  I have thought a lot about making some major life changes and I believe that now is the time to make them.
  • Capturing the stories of my family.

Looking so very forward to the stories 2011 will bring with it.

What’s your word for 2011?

No school…no work…SNOW DAY!

Sunday night we were hit with a pretty big snow storm (for Metro Atlanta that is) and as a result we were lucky enough to enjoy 2 snow days.  No work for me (office was closed) and no school for the boys.

Anyone have a shovel I can borrow?

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year!!!!  This past holiday I promised myself that I would focus 100% of my attention and time and just “be” in the moment.  I wanted to enjoy all the sights, smells, tastes, and sounds of the holiday season and not simply just go through the motions that we often times find ourselves doing.  So my thought was to do this effectively, I had to disconnect myself from technology.  Yes, that meant not powering up my laptop and turning off the cell phone (or at least putting in on silent) so that I could just focus on “being” in the moment.   Now I would be lying to you if I said that it wasn’t hard…because it was.  I am so used to being “on” and “in the know” and “accessible” that totally disconnecting from all things technology related is/was very hard.  And yes, there were times that I did get online and check Facebook and a few of my favorite blogs but I limited the amount of time that I was “on”.   This mini break was just what I needed – it gave me time to reconnect with my family and friends and to just “be”.  It also gave me time to glance back on 2010 and celebrate all that was good during this year and to think about all the wonderful things I would like to do in 2011.  One of the things that I have wanted to do was to take another online scrapbooking class.  So I signed up for Ali Edwards’ One Little Word class over at Big Picture Classes.  For the past few years Ali has always started off the New Year by selecting one little word to focus/meditate on for the year.  I joined Ali in 2010 for the first time (you can see my word here) and well I really enjoyed myself.  So I decided to do it again.  My word for 2011 is Story.  I will talk more about my word, why I selected it (or better yet why I think this word selected  me) and give you a little sneak peek on what I am working on to document my word in a later post.  If you would like more information on One Little Word then I urge you to check out Ali’s blog

I am excited about 2011 and all that it brings.  Happy New Year to you all and I wish you a year that is prosperous and filled with joy!
