And I thought this was bad…

Two weeks ago Saturday I can into the kitchen to see this….

But then I saw this yesterday and well that chocolate syrup wasn’t so bad…

It’s starting to look a lot like Halloween

This week the kids and I did a little decorating around here to get in the Halloween spirit.

Thanks to the dollar store and some things we had around the house, we were able to decorate without spending a lot of money.

With some old bottles we were able to make some spooky potions…

Today, we got boo’d!

Someone couldn’t wait to explore the contents of the bag and enjoy some of the sweet treats along with some added Halloween treasures!

Extreme Couponer…NOT

I will be the first to admit that I am a HUGE reality TV junkie. Right now it is the ONE guilty pleasure that I allow myself to just sit back and enjoy. Yes, it’s mindless TV and as my dear hubby would say, “serves no purpose” and he’s right but neither does House and Fringe but I’m not knocking him for enjoying it!

TLC’s Extreme Couponing is one of the shows that I enjoy watching. I am intrigued at how these extreme couponers are able to save hundreds of dollars on their grocery bill, their massive stockpiles (hundreds of bottles of body wash…really?) and the number of hours they invest in researching and preparing their list all in an effort to make sure that they get the best deal possible.  I just couldn’t get enough, which is why I jumped at the opportunity to attend a coupon class that my friend was hosting at her house.  Is it really possible for someone like “me” to buy hundreds of dollars of groceries and only pay $50?  I just had to find out.

Well I am here to tell you that this by far was the BEST $20 I had ever spent. (yes, it cost to have the woman come out to my friend’s house to teach the class)  The woman, who taught the class, told us the tips and tricks to getting the best deals for less.  She was very patient with the group as we had a LOT of questions.  By the end of the class we were all stating how eager we were to go out shopping to test our new skills.  And that is just what I did.

That next week, with my list and coupons in hand, I went to the store and shopped until I ran out of coupons.  My total bill before coupons and store discounts was a whopping $135.08 however I took it all home with me and only paid $46.96.  That is a 65% savings and for a newbie like me, that’s not too bad!  I was able to buy name brand food items that my family enjoys without breaking the bank.  I couldn’t believe it.  Now I’m hooked…I can’t wait to go shopping again to see how much I will save at the next shopping trip.

Am I on the path to becoming an Extreme Couponer…not hardly BUT I am down the path of becoming a more savvy shopper and using coupons to get the things that we want and need for the lowest price possible.

Do you use coupons when grocery shopping?

Week In The Life | Sunday Photos + Words

The last day of WNTL

Morning artwork

Writing letters

Getting ready

Taking the scenic route home

Last minute pick ups

This is the last day of Ali Edwards Week In The Life project and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Just focusing on documenting the routines of my family for this week has truly been a pleasure. It has forced me to be present in the day to day routines of our family and not just “go through the motions.” Thank you Ali for coming up with a great project and I can’t wait to see the finished project and share it with my family.
